And, in a way, João had been longing for Samara all along.

It all began at FCMS Medical School. João was one year ahead of her, and the moment he laid eyes on that first-year student, something changed. He couldn't quite explain what it was, but he felt that there was something about her that touched him in a way no one else had.

​

From that moment on, João spared no effort to get closer to her.

​

There was just one small detail: Samara wasn't exactly interested in making his mission any easier. They went out a few times over the years, but in her mind, it simply didn't make much sense.

​

After all, they were different. Very different.

She was full of energy; he was the definition of calm.

She could talk for hours; he preferred to observe.

She was a whirlwind; he was the embodiment of balance.

​

At one point, Samara even unfollowed João on Instagram. Perhaps, back then, she believed it was better for each of them to go their separate ways.

But João never stopped feeling that there was something special between them.

​

As unlikely as it seemed that two such different worlds could ever become a love story, deep down, João held on to one certainty: if he were ever to get married and build a family, the only person he could imagine doing that with was Samara.

​

Time went by.

They each lived their own experiences, grew, matured, and followed their own paths. Until, in July 2025, Samara said a prayer.

In the quiet of her heart, she asked God for a man who shared her values and principles. Someone willing to build a healthy, mature, and genuine relationship. With all her heart, she asked God to send her a sign when the time was right.

And then something happened that, even today, feels like a scene from a movie.

Shortly after her prayer, while scrolling through Instagram, Samara received a suggestion to follow João again. Of all people, João. After so many years.

​

She could have simply ignored it. After all, she had already decided to move forward without reopening that chapter. But something inside her whispered that perhaps this was the very sign she had just asked for.

Samara tapped "Follow."

​

A few seconds later, João accepted.

And, true to form, he wasted no time: a message arrived almost immediately.

​

This time, Samara accepted his invitation.

And that was how, after 14 years, those two hearts finally found themselves in the same place, at the right time. It was then that they discovered that perhaps love isn't about finding someone exactly like ourselves.

 

Perhaps love is about finding someone who teaches us the beauty of balance.

In learning to embrace our differences.

In admiring the qualities the other possesses that we may lack.

In being willing to learn.

In choosing, every single day, to grow together.

Because João and Samara realized they didn't need to change who they were to make room for each other in their lives. What they truly needed was to learn from one another. And little by little, they discovered that their differences weren't what kept them apart. They were precisely what made them complete.

​

Today, looking back, it's easy to understand that perhaps those 14 years weren't a time of waiting. They were a time of preparation. Each of them needed to live their own story, mature, learn, and become the person they are today so that, when their paths finally came together, they would be ready to experience what once seemed impossible.

​

And so, before God, beneath the sky, beside the sea, and surrounded by all the people who have been part of their story, they decided to celebrate their love and create a bond that would last forever.

 

Because some love stories don't unfold when we want them to.

They unfold when we're finally ready for them.
